New ERA of transatlantic research collaborations

The European Research Area (ERA) was launched in 2000 arguing that Europe lagged behind the United States in industrial competitiveness and the ability to make social and economic use of research. A unified research area was proposed and research and innovation actions were to be pursued in close cooperation among European Member States.
