International Patent Filings Set New Record

The World Intellectual Property Organization annual survey found that the number of patent filings in 2011 rose 10.7% above 2010.  The U.S., Japan, Germany, China, and South Korea led all countries, and seven of the top ten universities are U.S.-based.  China, Japan, and Germany are home to the top five companies filing patents in 2011.
