New Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate at National aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

The new directorate combines the former Space Operations and Exploration Systems mission directorates. According to NASA's press release, the new unit, to be headed by Associate Administrator Bill Gerstenmaier, will focus on "Space Station operations and human exploration beyond low Earth orbit." The reorganization will fully integrate the operation of NASA's in-space assets and current capabilities with planning for the agency's future, including the size and type of the work force, facilities and contracts.
