European Steel Technology Platform (ESTEP)

Category

Thematic task force/working group in EU

Area

Nanosciences, nanotechnologies, materials & new production technologies

Description

An economy without steel products is hardly imaginable. Machinery in manufacturing and processing industry, petroleum refi neries, and chemical plants for producing basic materials or pharmaceuticals are constructed of steel. Planes, trains, ships, automobiles and many other things needed on a daily basis could not be manufactured unless there were structural parts and components made of steel. Today, the steel sector is under increasing pressure to address a number of challenges.
